Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How long will my sign last?

Your sign will last for years and years. The better you take care of it the longer it will last. There are three things that normally damage signs: Water, Sun, and Dirt.

    • Water is not an issue with our signs. The carved signs are made of extira which is a composite that is impenetrable to water and the painted signs have the edges sealed with epoxy to eliminate this problem.
    • Sun damage is eliminated if you wax you sign once a year with car wax.
    • Dirt damage is controlled with a gentle washing prior to the waxing.

Please see our section on Sign Care for more specific instructions.

  2. How do I hang up my sign?

We think the most secure way to hang your sign is to choose brass hardware for your gold leafed signs and stainless steel hardware for your painted signs and to drill right through the sign and mount it on your building or post. If hanging your sign from a yardarm style post then we suggest eyelets coupled with O-Links.

  3. Can I Touch the 23K Gold Leaf?

It is not a good idea to touch or rub the 23K gold leaf areas on your sign. The gold is very strong and bonded to your sign, it can however react with the natural oils on your skin and bond to your skin rather than the sign. This is especially true in the first year of your sign’s life, before the sizing that bonds the gold to your sign is fully cured. Rain, Snow or Wind will not harm your gold leaf, but the oils on your skin can.

  4. How long will it take for my sign to be made?

We will ship your sign to you within five weeks of your order, sometimes sooner.

  5. Should I put a clear coat on my sign?

Never clear coat your sign! If you do I guarantee that within 12 to 18 months the surface will yellow and the clear coat layer will begin to curl the paint off your sign. To ensure a long life to your sign follow our instructions on the Sign Care section of this website.
